Stress Management

Learning stress management techniques can help lower your stress and keep it manageable. Stress is a part of life, we live in a world where we are all in hurry, and most of the time have no idea where we are going.

The three most important stress management techniques a person can learn are listed below.

1. Learn to relax. Even when life is crazy and there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to complete all our tasks, we have to make time to relax. It does not matter how you relax, just learn to relax! Relaxation is as important to the body as food, water and sleep. No one can go non stop without becoming severely stressed. Severe stress leads to medical conditions that no one wants to be diagnosed with!

2. How to relax. This may sound like a simple suggestion however, you would be amazed at the amount of people in the world who think they are taking time to relax, but in reality have no idea how to relax! Relaxation is as simple as quieting your mind and resting your body at the same time. Just for the record sleeping does NOT count as relaxing! Relaxing must be done while awake. Surely you have a hobby or two that you enjoy whether it be playing golf, swimming or crafts. By participating in a hobby you enjoy and leaving all your worries/stress out of that hobby, you have learned to relax!

3. Stress management can also be addressed in classes and through support groups. Some people probably more than you even realize, have no stress management abilities at all. These people are like the Energizer bunny they just keep going and going and going! Until one day the body becomes physically exhausted and the mind goes “WOW! Hold on! What just happened here?” That is known as your breaking point. Perhaps you have already reached that point, or you know it’s not far behind lurking in the shadows!

If you want to live a long and healthy life it’s time to stop what your doing and reevaluate what is important to you. Many people find that eliminating one or two “have to do” things a day or week can make their stress manageable.

While others have pushed themselves so far beyond their limits, they have no choice but to make major lifestyle changes, some of which include giving up life long careers for a less stressful one. I have known people who’s stress became so severe, because of their lack of stress management abilities they have quit their jobs and moved thousands of miles away just to get away from it all and try again so to speak.

Stop what your doing and take notice of what your body and mind are trying to tell you. Those constant headaches, slight depression, mood swings and the desire to go out for a pack of smokes (especially if you don’t smoke) and get lost on the way home, are tell tale signs you need to learn some stress management skills and fast!
